Climate change isn’t the most popular topic to talk about. Actually, I never talk about it with anyone basically. But why? It is a big issue right now, but we still don’t talk about it. I recently saw the documentary Before The Flood again and it made me think, what can WE do and is there any way to stop this?
According to Wikipedia, climate change is ”a change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns when that change lasts for an extended period of time (i.e., decades to millions of years). Climate change may refer to a change in average weather conditions, or in the time variation of weather within the context of longer-term average conditions. Climate change is caused by factors such as biotic processes, variations in solar radiation received by Earth, plate tectonics, and volcanic eruptions. Certain human activities have been identified as primary causes of ongoing climate change, often referred to as global warming.” (Wikipedia. 2018)
I’m obviously not an expert in this area, but I do have some thoughts on it. Are there things that we as citizens can do? I think we can.
With a little practice, it isn’t that hard to recylce. Instead of one big bin, you can buy a couple small one’s and separate you plastic with greenery, paper and just the rest. Easy. 😉 Also, trim your waste if possible. Garbage buried in landfills produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas.
Eat organic or become vegan?
Becoming vegan is very drastic and I will never become a vegan, but I do have to say that I barely eat meat anymore. Not only isn’t it healthy to eat a lot of meat and it’s just better for the environment. Why? Cows produce methane that goes into the atmosfere, which causes global warming and so climate change. They also take up a lot of space! You can eat chicken instead, or maybe reduce a little.
Take the bike
Almost everyone has a car these days and we use that thing constantly. But I do think we can leave that thing off a little more don’t you think? Take the bike more often or go walk. Being outside will do good for you.
Vote for parties that believe in climate change
A lot of political parties don’t believe in climate change or global warming. If you do and you want to help out, don’t vote for people who don’t believe.
Don’t waste energy by putting on lights when you are not there. I mean, you can leave a light on, but don’t overdo it. Also unplug computers, laptops and phones when they are charged. Don’t plug it in overnight, not good for your devices and for the climate.
So there are a couple easy things that we can do to help out a little. If you want to know more about this subject, go check out the documentary Before The Flood. It’s a really good one.
