Your life is about you and nobody else. It’s your story, your book, your movie and you play the lead. Stop thinking about others and pleasing everyone all the time. It’s you-time right now! If you truly hate your job and you have no fun doing it, quit! Spend those precious time to something that you actually like and stop thinking about what other people would say or think. It’s not about them, it’s about you.
Find out what you’re good at
This can be pretty tough for some people, but it’s really good to know find out what you’re good at. It can be anything. You can be good at cooking, cleaning, writing, working out or maybe you’re really good with children. Find a job that’s suited to that. If you do something you’re good at, most of the time you have fun doing it!
Know your weaknesses
Everyone has something they’re good at, and everyone has things that they’re not good at. Knowing what you’re weaknesses are, are just as important as knowing what you’re good at. If you don’t have good social skills, you probably shouldn’t be working at a bar or restaurant. Know you’re weaknesses so you don’t apply for jobs that’s not suited for you.
What makes you happy
This is the most important one. Life is all about being happy. Find out what makes you happy or what makes you smile, laugh and really enjoy the time that you’re spending on it. If can’t wait to go to the gym after work, maybe you should apply for a job as a personal trainer? Or work in the gym? If you’re always dreaming about traveling the world, why not look for a job as a travel agent? It sounds very simple, and it is!
Make a mood board
Collect things that cheers you up, has your interest or makes you happy. It can be pictures, fabrics, colors, words or illustrations. Anything that you’re interested in. If your mood board is done, you can take a look at the bigger picture. What did you collect and how does that make you feel? You put a lot of furniture and decorating stuff on it? Start looking at jobs in that area. Fashion has your interest? Apply for a job at a clothing store. You didn’t made mood boards in school just to keep you occupied. It had a purpose.
Try new things
If you’re really stuck, you just have to try new things. That’s the actual only way to find out what you like and want in your life and career. That job at the theater sounds nice to you? Apply! If you don’t like it, you can always quit and try something else. Trying new things is always fun and inspiring and makes great experiences and stories!
Talking to new people can really inspire you. You might find a new job! You don’t have to go to networking events if you don’t want to, you can always talk to people in a bar that you’ve never been to or talk to that duo in the café that you see every morning. Listening to other opinions, point of views or ideas can really inspire you and help you with finding out what the right path is for you.
Ask for help
If you have difficulties finding out your strengths and weaknesses or any other obstacle, ask for help. Ask a former boss or colleague what you were good at. Why did they hire you and what could you do better. You can also ask your friends or family what they think would suit you. You don’t have to follow their advice, but it can be really helpful!
