No matter what of an amazing life you have, somehow the grass always seems greener on the other side. Someone else always has more free time, more money, a better car (I don’t even have one!), a better house, just has it all better than you do! But is that really true though?
No it is not. It is not true. The grass is not greener on the other side. Someone else doesn’t have a better life than you. They aren’t happier than you are, it just seems like it. Especially at this day and age it is very easy to compare yourself to other people (hello social media) and to feel shit about your life after you scrolled through your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram feeds, seeing your ‘friends’ having fun and living ‘their best life’, without you, because you are sitting at home like a boring snob. NO! STOP IT!
You know these phrases they say now that if it’s not on Facebook it didn’t happen? Well, if you think that way, you are full of shit. Because that is just pathetic. Yes, I like social media and I like to scroll through my Twitter or Instagram feed because I follow awesome inspiring people, but I don’t post every little detail of my life on there. If I’m having a good time, yes, I might capture it with by taking a photo or making a video, but sometimes I just forget. Like we all do. And it is just stupid to think that you don’t ‘count’ because you didn’t put it up on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any other of the thousand social media platforms.
But I must say that it is sometimes a slap in the face when you see people traveling the world and you just set your alarm for tomorrow because you got a new workday ahead of you. But then again, there is not one life that is the same. We all have different paths and roads to go on and everyone is different. It might seem fancy that some ‘friends’ on your following list is at a ‘cool’ techno party, but I don’t even like techno, so it might seem cool and fun and all, but if I was there, I wouldn’t have a good time. So there’s that. Just because someone else is happy with something, doesn’t mean that you are going to be.
To get back to the green grass; No, the grass is not greener on the other side. We all get jealous sometimes, just admit it, that someone else might be more ‘successfull’ or has more friends or better hair or is a really good cook, but have you ever thought of it that there might be people out there who are jealous of you? Because there are, that must be. Because you’re awesome. You just don’t see it anymore because you got used to yourself. Besides, it might seem like other people are the ‘perfect couple’, but maybe they are constantly fighting all the time at home, or they are planning to separate. And it might seem that your other friend is making more money than you do, but maybe she hates her job. So you never know! And it also just never seems that we have enough do we? We always want more and more and more. Well maybe we are just enough. Be content for once in your life for god’s sake. So no, the grass is not greener on the other side. We all think it is, but it’s not. And to give a tip, shut down the internet for a while if you feel shitty.
