When you travel by train twice a day, five times a week, you find yourself having so called ‘silent travel partners’.
Every morning, every night you bump into the same people at the train station. Sometimes it’s comforting, sometimes annoying. Again that face, again that awkward smile when your eyes cross each other’s.
But sometimes, it’s also nice. Especially when you have delays, or your train just doesn’t show up at all. All of the sudden you have a conversation, a small talk, a little chat. You’re all in the same boat, sorry train, so why not share your irritations for the delays? Sometimes you even decide to travel along together, together to your destination, with a little detour obviously, the train didn’t show up remember.
And then, you both end up at your destination and you both go on your own way. ‘Bye! Have a good day, see you later!’ The next day, you off course bump into each other again. Same time, same station. But this time there are no delays, no complaining and the train is just coming on time and you both travel along without each other, without even saying hi to each other. Maybe an awkward smile. Until there’s another delay. And trust me. There will be another one.
