I read the book Unaccustomed Earth (Vreemd Land in Dutch) by Jhumpa Lahiri. Read here my review.
About the book
Unaccustomed Earth is a collection of short stories from Pulitzer Prize winning author Jhumpa Lahiri. This is her second collection of stories, the first being the Pulitzer-winning Interpreter of Maladies. As with much of Lahiri’s work, Unaccustomed Earth considers the lives of Bengali American characters and how they deal with their mixed cultural environment.
This book is ten years old, but I got this book as a gift and I had to mention it. I’m usually not really into short stories, but I loved this collection of stories combined in this beautiful book. I have never heard of Lahiri, but she is one fine writer. I really enjoyed reading this book. Every story is very detailed and you can really relate, even though I’m not Indian. The stories just really moved me and it is beautifully written. The characters sometimes return in some of her stories, which is nice. Beautiful stories. Beautiful book.
